Treating Acne with BLU® Light

Introducing...
BLU® Light Photo Dynamic Therapy

Keeps Acne Under Control Without Use of Oral Medications and It’s
FDA-Approved!

The compact, high tech BLU-U lightbay shown here delivers short-wave, “safe spectrum” light that destroys P. acnes bacteria––the bacteria responsible for inflaming pores, causing overproduction of sebum in oil glands, creating lesions and scars. The treatment is gentle, safe, and affordable, with minimal side effects. Visible clearing is achieved in a few visits.

Treats Today’s Breakouts and Staves Off Tomorrow’s. BLU light is a wonderful new tool from Europe, offering quick turnaround, good results and adjustability. We can BLU light alone or in conjunction with a topical solution called Levulan, which boosts it’s strength against tougher cases of Acne. Both BLU light and BLU light/Levulan are effective in clearing active lesions on the skin, as well as in calming and shrinking overproductive oil glands which can clog and inflame pores, creating new lesions down the road. It’s important to use this kind of 2-pronged attack with Acne for sustained improvement.

Without the Risks of Older Light Therapies or Oral Remedies. BLU light is gentle because its short, 417 peak wavelength cannot penetrate deep enough to damage underlying tissue––a problem seen with early UVA and UVB light treatments of the ‘50’s and 60’s, which were subsequently replaced by Accutane and oral antibiotics. Recently, Accutane, though highly effective, has come under fire. Accutane can elevate cholesterol in the blood, damage organs and cause birth defects if the patient becomes pregnant during its 16-week course. Accutane can only be used on patients who can observe and report side effects, and are diligent with contraception. Many times, it is ruled out for teens. Antibiotics can be tough on the digestive tract and their overuse is also problematic. BLU light gives patients an alternative that’s effective, patient-friendly and without systemic repercussions.

Fall and Winter are the Ideal Time to Treat. Blu light and Levulan will cause the skin to be quite sensitive to sunlight and will require patients to avoid the sun. A hat is a good idea. Sunscreen may not be enough. And this treatment can produce redness that may take a few weeks to subside. Acne can be a persistent and troubling adversary. Physicians want to be effective but walk a fine line in not wanting to harm the skin or compromise prudence. BLU light gives us all a treatment option that is less invasive than antibiotics or Accutane, more effective and comprehensive than topicals and vastly superior to older light therapies of decades past.
