Last month I had a visit from my Galderma representative with a new product introduction so impressive, I decided to make it my blog; The medication is MIRVASO® (BRIMONIDINE) TOPICAL GEL, 0.33%, which is an alpha adrenergic agonist. I see quite a few new products each year but this demonstration was remarkable. Within a few minutes, I could see the redness subsiding.
Mirvaso is the first and only FDA-approved medication developed specifically to address the redness of Rosacea. We immediately started thinking about the possibilities of integrating Mirvaso into our Rosacea treatment regimen, which includes IPL treatments, spaced at the appropriate intervals, oral antibiotics, and anti-inflammatories.
Mirvaso, available only by prescription, is not for anyone under 18. There are some important cautions to be heeded with its use, low blood pressure for one, heart and vascular conditions, etc., but it has a low incidence of side effects which are, for the most part mild and controllable. This brings me to another note that I must reiterate….when it comes to Rosacea, we must treat gently.
